about me

I’ve had a passion for photography and music for as long as I can remember. Amid the drudgery of a desk job, they formed a release and when the two mediums came together for me back in 2014, I felt reborn.

After becoming a part of the Live-Manchester events site covering music, I quickly found myself revelling in the pit, photographing some of my favourite artists (and some who I wasn’t at all familiar with). Yep, I’d become one of those people you see emerge from the wings at the last moment, photograph the first three songs and then disappear as quickly as they arrive.

Since then I’ve covered gigs at all the Manchester venues from The Eagle to Manchester Arena, from The Castle to Manchester Academy and Albert Hall and plenty of Liverpool gig venues including Liverpool Academy and Liverpool Arts Club. In fact I’ve spent so much time photographing gigs, friends have joked I should have “first three, no flash” tattood on my arm.

I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph the likes of The Amazons, Against The Current, Mabel, The Big Moon, James Blunt, Anteros, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Mysterines, Ward Thomas, The Regrettes and lots more.

But it’s not just live music I enjoy covering, as I’ve done studio and outdoor shoots for bands, soloists, labels and models including Hope Valley Records, The Verdict and Luca.

All in all, though, I love photography – from landscapes to cities, nature to cosplay I’m often found camera-in-hand!

If you’re an artist, band or model looking to do a shoot or have me cover your gig, give me a shout.

Things I’ve been asked

Why gig photography?

Simply – I love music, I love photography and get such a buzz from going in to the pit just before an artist comes on stage.

Favourite gig you’ve covered?

Against The Current at Manchester Academy.  Photographing one of my absolute favourite bands was such a thrill.  I’d never felt the adrenaline rush so much.  It was an awesome gig too – fourth time I’d seen them live but first time I’d shot them.

Memories of the first gig you shot?

It was at The Ruby Lounge … bad lighting, no pit, a raucous crowd and a band dressed all in black.  It was my first proper gig shoot and a very sharp learning curve!

Pet peeves in the pit?

Rudeness and arrogance.  We’re all there to do a job, work together like most do and we should all get some great pics.  Oh – and beer bombs!

Studio or outdoors?

Outdoors.  I’m happy to shoot in a studio, but outdoors gives you just a bit more freedom to do something special.
